Welcome To West Side Alumni

This site is the new home for the many graduates of West Side Middle School (formerly known as West Side Jr. High School) in Groton, Connecticut.

December 3, 2005
On Saturday, December 3, students and staff from West Side will walk in Groton's Holiday Lights parade in recognition of our 50th anniversary. Alumni are invited to join us. Walkers gather at the Groton Utilities Water Treatment Plant at 4:00. We are section B-27. You may ask any parade staff for assistance in finding B-27. You may park at the Groton Post Office, where the parade ends, and take a shuttle bus to the gathering sight. Shuttle buses start at 3:30. The parade begins at 5:00 and moves up Route 1 to the Groton Shopping Plaza.

Memorabilia Display

West Side memorabilia is now on display in the lobby of the school. Our thanks to Jim Streeter (class of 1960) and Adria (Vail) Cohen for the loan of items.

We need your help

1. Does anyone have memories of burying time capsules at West Side? If so, where are they? Let us know.

2. Does anyone have West Side memorabilia (other than yearbooks) that they are willing to loan us for a display? We're looking for rings, gym uniforms, old pictures, and  newspaper articles, etc. If so, please contact us.

History is repeating

When West Side opened in 1955, the only part of the building that wasn't finished was the gymnasium. When West Side opened in 2005, once again the gymnasium was not ready after undergoing renovations during the summer.

West Side is 50!

It was fifty years ago in 1955 that West Side opened its doors, graduating its first class in 1956. To celebrate a half-century of educating our children, we've planned a series of special events throughout the 2005-2006 school year.

The 50th Anniversary Committee is planning a tree planting on September 12th, 2005 at 1 p.m. This event will kick off the year-long celebration. The tree, which is being graciously donated by Phil Tuthill of Tuthill's Nursery,  will be planted directly in front of the school.  And what would an anniversary be without a party? Yes, that's in the plans as well, and it promises to be loads of fun. The details are still being refined, so please check back for updates.

How you can help

To join in the fun, we're asking for graduates of West Side to contact us. We're currently compiling a registry of graduates, which we will publish on this site shortly. The information in the registry will only be available to registered users of the site (registration is free).

Share your memories
In addition, we are asking graduates, former teachers, and staff for help recalling memories of West Side. We'd love to borrow photographs, class rings, newspaper clippings, athletic letters, and other memorabilia for a display. If you have items you're willing to contribute, please contact Marian Galbraith.
